FIND AN EVENT

National Public Lands Day was founded in 1994 to support stewardship projects and volunteer partnerships for America’s public lands. In Nevada, projects are held on Public Lands Day at sites all across the state. These partnerships for the stewardship of our public lands are essential in ensuring these treasured landscapes exist for the enjoyment of future generations of Nevadans.

    Description

National Public Lands Day is a once a year event where volunteers come out and steward their favorite public lands.

This year Friends of Gold Butte is partnering with both the Bureau of Land Management and the Nevada Division of Wildlife. One group of volunteers will be planting Joshua trees in the area Northwest of the Gold Butte Townsite that was burnt in the wildfires of 2005. The other group will be installing new directional signs at various points along the Gold Butte Backcounty Byway.

We would really love to have you come out and volunteer with us. It is amazing to see how much we can accomplish each year at theses events and the lasting impact our work has had on the monument. I hope that you will be able to join us.

    DETAILS

Bring long pants and long sleeves and closed toe shoes. Prepare for the heat, so also bring 4 liters of water and suncreen. Friends of Gold Butte will provide breakfast, but we recommend you bring a lunch. If you don't have a 4x4 capable vehicle, then let us know and we will get you a spot in one of our pickups.

    Description

For National Public Lands Day Friends of Sloan Canyon is partnering with the Bureau of Land Management to perform landscape restoration and remove social trails along Dutchman Pass Road, near the eastern boundary of Sloan Canyon NCA.

We'll be gathering near the Dutchman Pass trailhead at a parking area just inside the NCA boundaries. From there we'll carpool down Dutchman Pass Road for 2 miles or so to the restoration site. We'll wipe out some old social trails and restore the area to a more natural looking state for a couple hours then head back to the parking area lunch and many high fives.

Protective gear, tools, and portable restrooms will be provided, as well a boxed lunch and beverage at the end of the morning.

If you can use a garden rake or shovel you can help with conservation efforts at Sloan Canyon. Come get sweaty with us and help conserve your public lands. See you there!

ALSO: We could use a few more shuttles to get volunteers to the site and back. If you have a 4wd vehicle and would like to assist here contact Jim at jstanger@friendsofsloan.org.

    Description

Join us as we partner with Friends of Nevada Wilderness, Nevada Outdoor School, and the BLM – Nevada for a fun weekend of camping and volunteering at Soldier Meadows Cabin, Sept. 28th – 30th.

We will be working specifically in the Desert Dace habitat in the hot springs, so please bring waders or wellies if you have them. This is a continuation of an on-going multi-year project to remove overgrowth that causes flooding and allows the Green Sunfish to threaten and attack the endemic Desert Dace. Other projects include trash clean-up around Soldier Meadows Cabin and any repairs inside, as necessary.

We will meet at the Friends Office, 320 Main St. Gerlach and caravan out to Soldier Meadows Cabin for anyone wanting to follow.

    Time of meet-up: TBA.

Nevada Outdoor School will be hosting Kid’s Camp from 8am-4pm for kids ages 5+.

There will be a Potluck dinner Saturday evening OR depending upon the situation with current fire restrictions and safety, our usual Dutch Oven Cook-Off. Along with Friends of Nevada Wilderness, we will provide a continental breakfast both Saturday and Sunday mornings.

This is sure to be a weekend of good times, good people and a great way to improve your public lands! We will be camped out at the Soldier Meadows Cabin and immediate surrounding area.

***Please let us know if you have children attending the event who will be participating in Kid’s Camp.***

    Schedule of Events TBA.
